While numbering on this title continues from Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen, it's really a continuation of that book and two other titles, Superman's Girl Friend Lois Lane and Supergirl.

The publication went through two distinct phases. From its inception to issue #181, it was mostly a place where stories from other titles (mainly SPJO and SGLL) were reprinted. Issues tended to have one original story per issue. Readers could tell who was going to get the new material by looking to the left of the main art frame on the cover. There, they'd see small images of Lois, Jimmy and Supergirl. The image that appeared on top was the one who got the "new" story.

Starting with issue #182, this "framing element" is removed from the covers, and the book rarely saw reprinted material again.
